About Live Speedometer GPS Speed Tracking Solution
Why We Built a Speedometer for the Browser
The idea behind Live Speedometer came from a simple frustration: most GPS speed tools online are either buried in ads, demand an app install for something that should take five seconds, or haven’t been updated in years and no longer work reliably on modern phones.
We wanted something different a speedometer that opens instantly in any browser, gives you an accurate reading within seconds, and gets out of your way. No account. No download. No unnecessary permissions beyond the location access the tool actually needs to function.
That’s still the entire premise of this site today. What Live Speedometer Actually Does
Car speed testing

Our Approach to Accuracy
GPS speed measurement is only as trustworthy as the process behind it, so we’ve kept our approach deliberately simple and transparent rather than making inflated accuracy claims:
- We rely on your device’s native GPS hardware rather than estimating speed from IP address or cell-tower triangulation, which are far less precise
- We refresh readings frequently enough to reflect real acceleration and deceleration, not just an average over time
- We’re upfront about the conditions that affect any GPS-based tool — tunnels, dense urban canyons, and indoor use will all reduce accuracy, and we say so rather than pretending otherwise
If you want to understand exactly how GPS speed compares to a vehicle’s built-in speedometer, our homepage breaks down the main causes of the gap between the two.
Privacy Comes First
We only request location access because the speedometer cannot function without it — there’s no way around that technically. Beyond that:
- We do not sell or share your location data with third parties
- We do not require account creation or store a history of your movements
- Your GPS data is processed to calculate speed and is not retained after your session ends
